Lord Harries of Pentregarth, a retired Bishop of Oxford, said that such a gesture at the traditionally Anglican service would be "creative" and make Muslims feel "embraced" by the nation.
Speaking in the House of Lords yesterday, the retired bishop, who continues to serve as an assistant in the Anglican diocese of Southwark, said that the Church of England should be "exercising its historic position in a hospitable way."Speaking of a civic service held at Bristol Cathedral last year, he said that authorities had agreed that a passage from the Koran should be read out before the Christian service started. "It was a brilliant creative act of accommodation that made the Muslim high sheriff feel, as she said, warmly embraced but did not alienate the core congregation," he said."That principle of hospitality can and should be reflected in many public ceremonies, including the next coronation service."Prince Charles has previously stated that when he becomes king he wants to be seen as "Defender of Faith", rather than "Defender of the Faith" – a title traditionally used by British monarchs, first bestowed on Henry VIII by Pope Leo X in 1521.However, some Christian groups have criticised the idea. Simon Calvert of the Christian Institute told the Daily Mail: "Most people will be amazed at the idea that a Christian leader would consider the use of the Koran at a Christian service in a Christian abbey."People are just so disappointed when senior Church of England figures lose confidence in the claims of the Christian faith."

A high-ranking Anglican proclaims to all the world that there is no true and false, no right and wrong, and nothing worth preserving about the civilization in which he's lived his entire life. And Prince Charles has no idea why there should continue to be a United Kingdom of which he would become king:

Maybe something in the current gravitational fields that is making every day looney day or something. Even the current Il Papa is wrinkling some brows. Perhaps this is all leading to some reformation redux. Allah knows there are enough rifts in Islam too. Our generation often put it this way: "Too many people have died in the name of Christ that I can't believe it all." We are as far from one holy universal body of Christ as we ever were. Perhaps all we've ever needed is something more like some total eclipse of the heart. It's hell getting older.

They might be trying, but most of what your ilk has always had to say about any enemies is trumped up fear mongering. That is how you play us to hear your mad symphony of war.
ReplyDeleteGo back and read some recent LITD posts. The one entitled "Religion of Peace," for instance, which is a roundup of one day's Islamist atrocities in Nigeria, Kenya and Afghanistan. Or the one on the Synagogue attack in Israel. Or the one revealing that ISIS has a couple hundred thousand fighters, not the 30K estimated in September. Or the one on the meeting in the Syrian farmhouse between ISIS and a-Aaeda leaders, solidifying the rapprochement between the two groups, Or the mass extermination of Nimr tribe members in the town of Hit. And that's just the Sunni component.

Why is this happening after 13 years of war in various locations in the Middle Eaat? Don't bother answering if the answer is Obama. Actually, don't bother answering because there have been so many paper tigers to be afraid of over the past 70 years I've got serious and chronic ADHD about it all.
