The matter of John Conyers remaining on the ballot is foul indeed for a number of reason:
1.) Why did he not have the requisite number of signatures? Could he just not be bothered to round them up? Or was he having difficulty doing so?
2.) The judge who gave him a pass is a recent MEC appointee. Doesn't inspire a real high level of confidence that there was no partiality.
3.) Corruption is a Conyers family value. His wife Monica was a Detroit city councilwoman. She was just recently released from prison after serving 37 months on a kickback conviction.
It will be interesting to see just how far the symbolism of the congressman's demographic status takes him this time. Which will be louder, the voices pointing out just what he's made of and his lack of any record of achievement for his district, or those who champion him because you know what.
