Dunno about you but I recall being quite chilled by their militaristic display at the opening ceremonies of the 2008 Olympics, fearing that nothing can (easily) stop the shape of things to come. This was at the tail end of the Cheney-Bush administration and of an 8 year preparation period preceding the "display." It might have been cool for the Chicoms, but it sure chilled me. It is not American weakness so much as it is Chinese hubris. Don't you have to admit that we have exploited them for decades? They want some of our rip roarin'' prosperity, can you blame them?
Of course, the big question is how much longer big US firms like Apple, Nike and Cummins are going to ignore the overarching geostrategy of this trading partner of which they're so enamored.
