Robertson roundup

As much as I'd like to come up with something stunningly original to say about A&E firing Phil Robertson, enough others articulate my position quite effectively, so it's probably most efficient for me to link to their statements:

John Nolte at Breitbart.

Bookworm Room.

Gov. Bobby Jindal.

Sarah Palin.

Matt Lewis at the Daily Caller.  This one is good because he juxtaposes Phil and Pajama Boy.

Selwyn Duke at The American Thinker.

Bottom line:  He didn't say anything that expressed bigotry.

  1. The apparent fact that an idiotic reality show like Duck Dynasty is aired on the Arts & Entertainment channel (for the entire globe to consume via Netflix and other outlets) which could not be supported by advertising when it aired symphony concerts and other arts programming (same goes for the Discovery& History channels) is indicative of just how late in the day it really is, regardless of your stupid American political affiliation.

  2. Have you any word on the outcome of the JLaw butt plug story?

  3. Anyhow, my understanding is that he was suspended, not fired. And just what do you think this all will do for the show's ratings and hence its prototypical American victory for profits? It is likely my age showing, but I am not much on celebrity heroes these days. This bearded hick is a hero, isn't he? At worst he is same old, same old--a celebrity. Take it to the bank!

  4. You make a valid point. In fact, it's a broader type of consideration than we're getting from most corners on this.

What does it say about us that, in a time of chronic underemployment, Iranian and North Korean nukes, Chinese belligerence and chaos in the health care industry, we once again make a figure with fleeting celebrity status the focal point of our national discussion?

  5. I do correct myself that this man is a hick, he's really not, former starting QB at LSU ahead of Terry Bradshaw in mid to late 60s, graduated with degree in phys ed & education, taught, bought (a business), drank, lost some, almost lost his family, found God (JESUS!) and now a rich man doing what he loves and loving what he does.

In essence, he proves that life is full of second chances. Only in America!

  6. Not familiar with how it goes in other countries, but American television is a vaster wasteland than ever. Transmitted to vastly wasted worldwide. It truly is exceptional. Like a big dump.
