Ted's speech and the fault lines in stark relief

The theme was freedom, and he used it to launch into reasons why America is precious and why Hillionaire is unacceptable. Everyone was digging it until . . . until . . .

For cryin' out loud, all he did was tell people not to stay home that first Tuesday in November , and to vote their consciences up and down the ballot.

His only mention of Squirrel-Hair was to congratulate him on his victory at the outset of his remarks.

And voting one's conscience was in keeping with the freedom theme: If one's conscience dictates a vote for S-H, then that's what that voter needs to do.

But the ugliness that ensued. Boos from the crowd. Sheldon Adleson banning Ted from his suite. Christie saying it was selfish. Huckabee calling it a betrayal.

Excuse me, but Squirrel-Hair insulted Ted's wife, called Ted a liar, said he as "soft and weak, like a little baby, and insinuated that Ted's father was implicated in JFK's assassination.

More basically, he has the guts to proceed on the basis of knowing that S-H is fundamentally unfit to be president.

I thought Ted was damn gracious under the circumstances.

A master stroke from the guy who should be the standard-bearer.

  1. Woulda coulda shoulda except for the mere matter of popularity and votes. He might need 4 years in the desert to prep for next time which is clearly what also-rans have no choice but what to do. Rumor has it he has few friends in congress too. Ya gotta have friends if you're a politician.
