Jonah Goldberg at NRO focuses on what attitude from S-H came across in the sit-down with Leslie Stahl:
. . . Trump is viewed by many conservatives as an imposter and hijacker.
The Trump campaign tried to fix this problem by selecting Indiana governor Mike Pence as his running mate, but Trump stomped on that message by fumbling his announcement and then, in a joint interview with 60 Minutes, treating Pence like a glorified intern. The message for many conservatives wasn’t that Trump was embracing conservatism, but that he was willing to condescend to it.And that is what we're going to be living with at least through November.
Everybody embrace the conservatives now. They seem to be demanding it.
ReplyDeleteThere will of course be condescension to power or those without power will remain without. Tonite: Cruz pants for power. He's pulling for some recognition for 2020 but first he must grovel. Will he?
ReplyDeleteTed Cruz is a principled Constitutionalist, a devout Christian, and a basically good person.
ReplyDeleteThe Republican party as currently constituted is not interested in whether a given figure is any of those things.
Love it or leave it and you left it. Now what? Are you up for a little secession? Do you want to be Blue or Grey?
ReplyDeleteTed Cruz, will the Real America be watching? How many votes is that?
ReplyDeleteI don't care how deep and bitter the divisions in this country get. I stand for a forthrightly stated set of principles, and I am not interested in compromise.
ReplyDeleteVote your conscience. And suit yourself.
ReplyDeleteAnd there ain't even gonna be a 2020 if all the naysayers are right, which they aren't.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you are not interested in compromise do not be surprised if you don't get any deals done unless you deal only in suck asses and sycophants.
