Interesting timing, what with Congress calling it a legislative year and heading home.
The Left, of course, is all gooey in the britches over it.
Those who love freedom and America instead of tyranny and decline have a different take. Marco Rubio says it's "part of a long record of coddling dictators and tyrants that this administration has established," and House member from Florida Mario Diaz-Balart says the MEC is the "Appeaser-in-Chief."
Democrat Senator Robert Menendez is furious:
“President Obama's actions have vindicated the brutal behavior of the Cuban government," Menendez, known for his tough stance on Cuba, said in a statement. We shall see how far the MEC tries to go via executive-branch overreach. With an incoming Pub Senate majority and the largest Pub House majority in 83 years, he's going to have a fight on his hands getting any of this crud paid for.
"There is no equivalence between an international aid worker and convicted spies who were found guilty of conspiracy to commit espionage against our nation."American aid worker Alan Gross, who was held in Cuba for five years for trying to set up Internet for a small Jewish community, was released on Wednesday in exchange for the release of three Cuban agents convicted of spying in the U.S.Menendez said the swap "sets an extremely dangerous precedent.""It invites dictatorial and rogue regimes to use Americans serving overseas as bargaining chips. I fear that today’s actions will put at risk the thousands of Americans that work overseas to support civil society, advocate for access to information, provide humanitarian services, and promote democratic reforms."
Look for the MEC's true colors to show ever more boldly over the next two years.
