Fortunately, there are pockets of opposition within the church:
Let's here it for division. Let's hear it for courage. Let's hear it for common sense.. . . one of the factions who will denounce the paper as political will be the powerful US evangelical movement. The conservative Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation has already declared the US environmental movement to be “un-biblical” and a false religion.A spokesman for the Alliance, Calvin Beisner has said: “The pope should back off. The Catholic church is correct on the ethical principles but has been misled on the science. It follows that the policies the Vatican is promoting are incorrect. Our position reflects the views of millions of evangelical Christians in the US.”
My immediate reaction is that I wish he was not about to do that. I do wonder about rising sea levels and unprecedented mass extinction of species here on the only planet we know about so far. Maybe it's just God doing this to us to teach us a lesson, I dunno. He flooded the world once and it is said He would not do it again. So, why worry now? Maybe it is not happening, I dunno. But glad you do. The global population has quadrupled since 1950, so evidently abortion and birth control have had no effect whatsoever on that fact(oid?).
