Debate one - initial thoughts

Demeanor-wise, they lived up to their caricatures. Squirrel-Hair was smug and petty, Madame BleachBit was by turns cold and shrill.

A huge frustration for me was the fact that S-H didn't respond to BB's proud reiterations of her redistributionist proposals (hiking the minimum wage and estate tax, achieving "equal pay" for women, "investing in infrastructure") with solid free-market-based refutations, opting instead to talk about what he perceives to be crummy trade deals with other countries. That's because S-H has no grounding in free-market principles.

There were the expected why-won't-you-release-this-that-and-the-other-documents volleys, which have come to be customary at these spectacles. That's a shame, because BleachBit's emails fall into a category of significance above the usual tax-return clamoring.

Identity politics was sadly but inevitably a prominent theme.

S-H was a true-to-form bonehead in his "that's called business" response to BB's charge that he viewed the housing collapse opportunistically.

All in all, it made me embarrassed to be a post-American, just as I'd expected.

  2. Barney: If she weren't a woman, you wouldn't use the words "cold and shrill" in other words, referring to her as if she were a wailing banshee. If she had been a man you would have used words like "in control," "consistent," "poised" "prepared" "steady," "on-point," etc. You don't see the misogyny in your perception.

  4. Traits aren't automatically interchangeable between males and females. "In control," "consistent," "poised" "prepared" "steady," "on-point" are not the same thing as cold and shrill.

Which is not to say a man can't be shrill. In fact, Trump is often shrill.

But his main distasteful traits are his tendency to bully, which is a little different from shrillness, and his preoccupation with being seen as a "winner." These distasteful traits generally show up in men.

The fundamental flaw of feminism is the fact that it is predicated on a resentment of nature's basic design.

  5. Rush thinks Trump caught her off guard (if she were a man it might have been caught with his pants down) for the initial 20 to 30 min.) , but I didn't see that at all. Still a man sees what he wants to see and disregards the rest....

  6. And your take that she was cold and shrill is lost on me. She smiled a lot and had some humorous come-backs with bemused expressions on her face. And it was obvious Trump interrupted her frequently just like the man he thinks he is is supposed to do. And that comment about staminah. She will probably outlast him.

  7. Though he toned it down a bit, the evil dickhead is just a low down rich fuck. And those who are deceived thereby are not wise.
