The announcement in yesterday’s New York Times that he will seek an Iran deal “that will avoid Congress” reveals his utter contempt for the American people. Moreover, it shows us that what clearly will be a very, very bad deal is one he hopes to portray as proof that he has brought stability to the Middle East, and that — just as he had argued — Iran has shown that it is cooperative, is under “moderate” leadership, and has proved that it wants peace and can be a partner of the United States.
As the Times story by David E. Sanger puts it: “President Obama will do everything in his power to avoid letting Congress vote on it.” He will do it with a sleight-of-hand semantic trick which involves removing sanctions on Iran without Congressional approval, which a Treasury Department study evidently argues that he can do. By calling it simply an “agreement” and not a treaty, Obama thinks he can accept a bad deal and legally not have to obtain a two-thirds vote of the Senate.
The reason he wants to do this is obvious: even if the Democrats control the Senate, he would not have enough votes for a treaty to pass. But there's one very odd aspect to this: What kind of leader - maybe in particular a tyrant, which is what the MEC aspires to - goes out of his way to ink a bad deal? Tyrants are usually rather aggressive, or at least paranoid, on the world stage.
This bunch - the Most Equal Comrade and all the comandantes in his regime - wants less power and stature relative to the other nations of the world. That's just plain wacky. How long do they think they can retain power when they are played for fools left and right by every adversary and enemy out there?
It may be madness. They may so take this notion that the fact that it's the 21st century ought to have an automatic evolutionary effect on human nature to heart that it deactivates their instinct for self-preservation. In other words, maybe the MEC and Secretary Global Test really do live in an alternate universe of unicorns and rainbows. Their prioritization of "climate change" would certainly indicate that.
Hasn't the MEC stopped to think about what a sick figure he's going to cut in history? The first overt totalitarian socialist to become president of the United States, and he used the opportunity to put not only that country but his own sorry ass in mortal danger?
This is the central problem with leftism. Ultimately, it's untethered from reality: no difference between the genders, "climate change," a new era in which ayatollahs and jihadis can be charmed by "heroic" "peacemaking" efforts.
It is important to get a handle on the motives of Freedom-Haters like the MEC. What one finds is disturbing, but there's lots about reality that is.
