Why common sense needs very vocal champions

Gay Patriot on the non-reaction of the Freedom-Haters on the one hand and the Reasonable Gentlemen on the other to the CBO's report that the federal government's debt will increase from its present $17 trillion to $27 trillion in ten years:

If you ask the President and his party how they intend to deal with the country’s impending fiscal catastrophe, they have a simple answer for you: “War on Women! Racist Republicans! Koch Brothers!”

If you ask the “opposition” party how they intend to deal with fiscal oblivion, they have an answer, too:  “We’re very concerned about the debt and deficit. Now, let’s talk about immigration reform.” (Gotta get Jeb Bush’s gardener out of the shadows.)

And this is why we’re boned.

And so you see, the base, or the Tea Party, or whatever you want to call us, are the only grownups currently participating in our national debate.
