Mona Charen fires back - quite effectively - at Dana Milbank

The other day, Milbank wrote a WaPo column about a Heritage Foundation panel discussion on marriage he'd attended.  NRO's Mona Charen was one of the panelists.  I understand that Milbank leans left, but - and, mind you, I don't read his every column - I'd generally found him to keep his rhetoric fairly elevated.  This one seemed uncharacteristically snotty and derisive.

So Charen responds at NRO today. Read the entire piece, in which she reiterates the cultural concerns she expressed on the panel.

In my estimation, the money line is one that is applicable beyond the scope of the subject at hand:

The Left cannot shake its starry-eyed confidence that history has a vector — that forward is always towards the sunny uplands of equality, prosperity, and happiness — and backwards is always a descent. Tell that to Germans in 1933 or Cambodians in 1975. Ask a newly captured slave on board a ship in the middle passage if he wanted to “go back in history.”

Yes, indeed. That's why they pride themselves on the "progressive" label.  Their ability to bamboozle the whole world into swallowing a notion of human nature that is utter hooey depends on it.

  3. Not referring to that, referring to the parses you mince between tweedledee and twiddledum, you try to talk truth when, at best it can only be calculated and proven mathematically and I'd guess that loses you as much as it loses me. A skull is a skull, war is war, regardless of the wearer. Or the terror...
