Here's my contribution to the obligatory acknowledgement of the 50th anniversary of their first Ed Sullivan appearance. Here they are on New Years Day 1962 performing the old Harry Warren standard "September in the Rain" for their failed audition with Decca Records. The fact that Decca took a pass put some heat on Brian Epstein, the manager they'd hired the previous November, but by June 62, he'd gotten them an audition with George Martin at Parlophone, and the rest is, as they say, history.
And, of course, Pete Best was still on drums.
Everybody alive then that still is should journal about this, could be quite self-revelatory, not that anyone else would much care to read it.
