It's a lot of hooey. It still owes the preopnderance of the remaining TARP money. It still owes over half the $50 billion . Even a significant portion of what it has paid back came from a special escrow account set up for it by the government that could only be tapped with Treaury's permission (and, guess what?, it got Treasury's permission). Much of its supposed current profit comes from Chinese joint ventures that are not wholly owned subsidiaries. The government is still subsidizing new product lines.
Ford, which did not take bailout money, is considerably more profitable.

ReplyDeleteFrankly I rarely know what to believe when I haven't been there myself.. Were there WMDs in Iraq? Is marijuana bad for you? Since we did not win in Nam did the entire world go commie?
ReplyDeleteThere ought to be a law requiring that someone who wants to vote in federal elections must demonstrate a consistent worldview the underpinnings of which he can successfully argue with facts and logic.

ReplyDeleteIs there a degree of inconsistency that maximizes the wisdom of one's views? Is there a sweet zone of just x amount, or is it best to throw the thing wide open and be completely inconsistent, so that one's worldview is utter chaos?
