Turkey crosses the border

It's already begun air and artillery strikes in northern Syria in order to pave the way for the seizing of ground.

In his signature style, Trump has made a mess of this entire thing. Consider his mixed signals to Erdogan. Turkey is a NATO member in good standing, but we'll be keeping a sharp eye out for any "unnecessary fighting," which would bring on sanctions that would "obliterate" Turkey's economy. Oh, and would you like to come to the US for a state visit next month?

And the troop withdrawal itself was handled in the worst way possible:

“The abrupt policy decision to seemingly abandon our Kurdish partners could not come at a worse time,” former U.S. Central Command chief, retired Gen. Joseph Votel writesin the The Atlantic. “The decision was made without consulting U.S. allies or senior U.S. military leadership and threatens to affect future partnerships at precisely the time we need them most.”
Votel is the U.S. commander who put together the Syrian Democratic Forces, which began the Kurdish People’s Protection Units, or YPG, that Turkey considers terrorists.
“Over four years, the SDF freed tens of thousands of square miles and millions of people from the grip of ISIS. Throughout the fight, it sustained nearly 11,000 casualties. By comparison, six U.S. service members, as well as two civilians, have been killed in the anti-ISIS campaign,” Votel notes in an essay co-authored by Elizabeth Dent, a former State Department counterterrorism official.
“Key to this effective relationship was mutual trust,” they write. “The sudden policy change this week breaks that trust at the most crucial juncture and leaves our partners with very limited options.”
Already, the VSG shills are putting the not-worth-one-drop-of-American-blood spin on this, disregarding the implications Votel points out above. Tucker Carlson and Kurt Schlichter come to mind.

But a move like this sends signals. Every bad actor out there gunning for the US has been served notice that this nation, with the Very Stable Genius at the helm, is a dazed and stumbling giant.

  1. Don likes to operate on spite with bite. Overturning the Obama legacy was not out of principles. Nor is his "nationalistic pacifism. I think is digging Bolton and his ilk not digging this move. Actually moving our embassy to Jerusalem? More spite than anything. He loves to denigrate all former prexies too.

  2. It's just very unfortunate that we are saddled with him at present.

  3. Your former party is spineless in the issue of their President and their candidate for 2020. But then again, an argument can be made that leaving the party is spineless too.

  4. Former Vice President Joe Biden on Wednesday said he supports the impeachment of President Trump.

“With his words and his actions, President Trump has indicted himself by obstructing justice, refusing to comply with the congressional inquiry,” Biden said during a campaign event in Rochester, N.H. “He’s already convicted himself.

“In full view of the world and the American people, Donald Trump has violated his oath of office, betrayed this nation and committed impeachable acts,” Biden continued, drawing applause. “To preserve our Constitution, our democracy, our basic integrity, he should be impeached.”

More from Biden’s speech (as delivered):

But we have to remember that impeachment isn't only about what the president has done. It's about the threat the president poses to the nation if allowed to remain in office. One thing about this president is absolutely clear. He has seen no limits to his power regardless of what the Constitution says. He believes the entire United States government can be corrupted into furthering his personal political needs. He's even willing to hold Congress and congressionally appropriated aid to a foreign nation hostage to his personal political demands. He believes if he does something, it's legal. Period. And perhaps, most importantly, he believes there is nothing we can do about it. He believes he can and will get away with anything he does. We all laughed when he said he could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot someone and get away with it. It's no joke. He's shooting holes in the Constitution and we cannot let him get away with it.
