I've seen this clear down to the local level in the Freedom-Hater party: If he or she has a D behind their name, do whatever is necessary - whatever is necessary - to drag 'em over the finish line.Senior political analyst for National Journal, Ron Fournier, speaks about his recent opinion piece Why Can't Hillary Clinton Stop Lying on Tuesday's Morning Joe on MSNBC.
"Clinton’s advisers, senior Democrats, and members of the liberal media need to stop covering for Clinton. Stop repeating her spin. Stop spreading her lies. Stop enabling her worse angels. It’s too late for Clinton to come clean, but honorable Democrats should at least insist that she stop muddying the water," he wrote. "Please, for the sake of the country, tell her: Stop lying."WILLIE GEIST, MSNBC : Do you think part of it, Ron, is she has assessed in this race that she's up against someone that she can safely hold the ball and not go into detail and not talk about what exactly she did because he's getting away with it against Donald Trump?
RON FOURNIER, NATIONAL JOURNAL: That is why, but I'm afraid she might be making a bad assessment, for two reasons. One, that's been their assessment from the beginning.
I literally have had senior officials (not on the record) on background a year ago, more than a year ago, saying that trust doesn't matter, that Bill Clinton won even though he was trusted less than the two people he ran against. What they don't realize is that the world has changed.
Now we understand that trust does matter. She could still win, even by continuing this parsing and this lying, but then she's going to be leading a country where two-thirds of the people don't trust her. And you can't transform our politics, or do half the things she wants to do if people don't trust her.
They're only worried about winning this news cycle and winning on election day. They are not thinking about what she is doing to undermine, not only her credibility, but the credibility of the whole political system and the Democratic Party.

"Trust doesn't matter"
How cynical are the F-Hers?

We may be ignorant cattle but we know what the alternative is an that absolutely must not be, for US and the world. She will do fine and might even be great. Despite a world with a lot of hate. I even voted for Cruz in the Indiana primary, holding my snout of course. Moo!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe whole world is watching and the whole world will thank us. Sounds as if you want to impeach another Clinton before the fact we all hope is fact.
ReplyDeleteAnd trust does matter and Hillie and Billie ain't no dummies, but they also aren't going to run away from a fight. We know they will hang in there. I cannot not watch as Trump grows more furious by the second.
ReplyDeleteA normal politician knows that no matter how much criticism gets under the skin, the thing to do is to smile and wave it off. You don’t have to mean it. You don’t even have to appear to mean it. But it is what you do, if only to avoid compounding the damage. Trump cannot make this simple self-serving calculation. He must attack everyone who opposes him, even after he has defeated them. He must continue talking about Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s father, even after Cruz has thrown in the towel. He must humiliate New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, even after Christie has lain down before him.

You're preaching to the choir with regard to linking anti-Trump pieces. You know where LITD stands on him.
ReplyDeleteBut this "will be fine" business gets my attention. We'll really be fine if the corporate tax rate goes up, if our $19 trillion debt balloons even further due to providing everyone with "free" college, with the coal industry finally dying, and the health-insurance industry following close behind, with Russia, China and Iran able to blackmail the president due to the classified info they have in their hands?
There's also the entire Clinton machine being fine with mendacity, per what Fournier is saying here.
ReplyDeleteI pity the poor corporate who left us all in a lurch. The money has to come from somewhere, so cough it up, corporate. You can check out any time you like but you can never leave.
ReplyDeleteVote your conscience then. Corporations have downsized, outsourced, offshored, devasted health insurance and pension plans, turned us all into 1099s, they do what they want and expect tax breaks when they see everyone panting to make their towns great again, often not keeping their end of the bargain. They are hugely responsible for creating an America that many follow a mad rich demagogue in hopes that he can make America great again. They turned our sports stadiums into advertisements for themselves, whilst their privileged watch the games in luxurious suites, fawning and pandering to the other rich and phony. And everyone seems to want to become rich like they are. They've turned their offices into armed camps, like to check out our piss and now swab for the presence of nicotene to screen their workers. They will automate the worker out of existence and of course let us eat their cake which they lie about the nutritional value of. If all politics are local, all corporations ought to be too. But nooooo, offend them and they're off. To Tangiers or wherever else is trendy for the latest spouses of their hotshot execs. No I'm not a commie. I just remember how great the America my parents and grandparents fought and died for to make great for their families and their communities.
ReplyDeleteAnd no, inasfar as we are a nation of laws and hence lawyers , not men, trust does indeed not matter. All that matters is that you and/or your client wins. Even your beloved Cruz understands that.
ReplyDeleteTrump & his cadre of barristers certainly understand that. They redact information, refuse to release data, seal records, conveniently lose records (knowing they can't be found) and this goes on daily in the work of government and in the work of corporations and often in our daily lives. It's called adversarial relationships. They supposedly work. There ain't no love is all we need; it's more like take the money (which makes the world go round) and run.
ReplyDeleteYou really are a piece of work. Outsourcing and automation are two of your pet rants, yet you're fine with FHers pouring on even more of the taxation and regulation that drives them to such measures.
ReplyDeleteI'm seriously not familiar with this theory that society ought to run on "adversarial relationships."!I know that the authors of The Federalist papers did say the Constitution ought to structure government so as to minimize the impact of factionalism, so they acknowledged that relations can become adversarial, but the point is to guard against it.
ReplyDeleteCorporations used to take care of this business. Now they don't. Who else is going to pick up the slack? Corporations are slick. They think they can just mass advertise us into submission. Submission to their god Mammon. They use sex a lot in their advertising. Nothing drives corporate libido for outsourcing and automation but the bottom line. And that means, if not slavery and child labor, automation and offshoring.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think they've turned as many of us as possible into 1099ers? They don't even want that pesky liability for what might go wrong in the execution of their operations. That they now dump on the individual.
ReplyDeleteThere will be winners of this argument we are having. There will be winners.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean by "this business"?
ReplyDeleteAnd some corporations use sex in advertising and some don't. What does that have to do with how they respond to a heavier tax and regulation burden.
And while I'm asking about meanings, explain "submission."
And being an independent contractor - a "1099er" - is a fine thing.
Have you thought about who really owns corporations? It's anyone with a mutual fund. Schoolteachers, firefighter, claims adjusters, freelance writers. So, yes, a whole lot of folks have a stake in the best possible bottom line.
ReplyDeleteThe it will be fine business you refer to. You are like the general who said the naked girl running screaming in the pic from Nam was burnt by an overturned hibachi. Man, if you prefer being a 1099 to being an employee with the various bennies we used to have, for me, including company cars, life and health insurance, paid vacations, time off to go to dentists, doctors, etc., pensions, furnished company equipment, etc. you are frigging off your rocker. So you want such largess as the nothing you get to be what we all get now? We've gone way backwards, dude. Now you will scream: Nobody has a right to a job!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou said above But this "will be fine" business gets my attention. That is the business I am referring to. And what sex has to do with it is that you are always railing against thee immorality of the ignorant cattle masses. Corporations fuel it and capitalize on it in their mass hypnosis.
ReplyDeleteYes, stockholders really own corporations. Part of the problem, gambling. The market runs on fear and greed dude. Look it up in any entry level economics text book.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm off my friggin' rocker, because I definitely mean it that I like being an independent contractor.
ReplyDeleteOh, it's a "problem" that stockholders own corporations? Pray tell, who should own them?
And yes, this is an opportune time to restate that basic truth: Nobody has a right to a job.
I'm intrigued - only mildly so, but intrigued - as to how I am like a general saying the screaming girl on the Vietnamese road got burned by an overturned hibachi.
ReplyDeleteBecause you try to positively spin 1099 life. And it's a lie that we are better off as 1099s.
ReplyDeleteAKA Whitewash
ReplyDeleteNo need to spin. Being an independent contractor is great! Work when you want, take leisure time when you want. It's the purest form of entrepreneurship.
ReplyDeleteIt's not as if there are these two sets of people - "workers" and employers - with employers putting some kind of "squeeze" on workers. There are only millions of individual human beings, each one making choices about what to do fora living and how to do it.
