Dismayed but not surprised

Murkowski is publicly announcing the she's a thumbs-down on Kavanaugh.

Streiff at Red State sizes up the two goofy leftist notions that have motivated the Alaska Senator:

Murkowski seems to have bought into a couple of nutty ideas. First, that because some women, somewhere, have been victims of sexual assault, then Brett Kavanaugh, bearing the Original Sin of Maleness, must be denied a seat on the Supreme Court. The perverseness of that logic cannot be exaggerated. It can and will be applied to literally every job in the nation.
The second idea is that Kavanaugh’s nomination damages the credibility of the Supreme Court presumably because being the subject of an orchestrated smear campaign stains the office to which you have been nominated.
NRO writer Alexandra DeSanctis's tweet about it is also spot on:

I’m highly disturbed by this notion that it’s just to punish Kavanaugh for other men’s sins. There’s no legitimate reason to believe he’s committed any sexual misconduct, but half the country wants to make some kind of cultural sacrifice out of him.
One expects identity-politics nonsense out of Democrats, but Republicans don't wear it well.

Then again, she's been ate up with Reasonable Gentleman Syndrome for some time.

Gonna be interesting to follow her polling numbers.

  1. "Kavanaugh, though, has a distinct honor: He will be the first justice nominated by someone who lost the popular vote to earn his seat on the bench with support from senators representing less than half of the country while having his nomination opposed by a majority of the country."
