A noteworthy utterance from a determined jihadist

Bracing words from a sword-wielding savage:

“Know, oh Obama, that we will reach America. Know also that we will cut off your head in the White House and transform America into a Muslim province,” said an ISIS fighter in a video obtained by MEMRI, before beheading a Kurdish soldier.
The statement was delivered from a street in Mosul, Iraq, which ISIS fighters have taken and where U.S. Marines formerly battled Al Qaeda.
If I were the Most Equal Comrade, that would get my attention.  But, alas, I'm not, and his way of seeing the world could not be more different.

In this sense, Iraq was not an aberration, but the historic zenith and nadir for a way of thinking that is only now slowing waning. For decades to come, the United States will have a big enough military to ensure that our decline is slow, bloody, ugly and reluctant, if inevitable. One day, however, even the drones will have to land."

  3. The Nation has it backwards. Much of Islam has turned the West into a foe.

So goes another American intervention based on lies and misrepresentations. Libya, which had come to terms with the US during the Bush Administration, is now an incubator of violence and terrorism. The US State Department, and its leadership must answer for their actions which were executed under the morally elastic doctrine of "Right to Protect.". Will those who willfully perpetrated these disasters against innocent people in Libya ever be held accountable? Prior to exercising "Right to Protect" is the responsibility to tell the truth.
The US State Department, using the pretext of humanitarian intervention, pursued a regime change in Libya, against the advice of the intelligence community and top Pentagon officials, and spurned all efforts to avert war, despite a Moammar Qaddafi offer to step down.
This conclusion, drawn from reading today's investigative report in the Washington Times, is an indictment of a culture of arrogance which existed at the State Department which did a grave disservice to the American people and to the world.
One does not have to be a fan of (the late) Moammar Qadaffi to say the war against Libya was not necessary. The question is not whether he was or was not a good man, or a worthy leader. The question is what was the truth and what was in the interests of the United States of America?
The State Department, led by the Secretary, apparently was not properly informing the President about available intelligence which argued against going to war, according to concerns expressed by Pentagon officials. If this report in the Times is true it represents a great abuse of power, not just a lapse in judgement and could be the basis for legal action against those who misrepresented the reason for military action.
I led the effort in Congress to try to stop the war against Libya, because contrary to what was coming out of the State Department, it was clear that Qadaffi was attempting to put down a violent uprising against his regime and that he did not target civilians for "massacre" as was claimed. .
The State Department was so totally committed to war and removing Qaddafi, that they refused to talk to Libyan officials who then tried to communicate their willingness to cooperate with Pentagon officials. .I was contacted by Libyan officials because I openly challenged the Libyan policy. I tried to get Congress to block the war. I tried to alert both the White House and the State Department that intermediaries contacted me to seek a peaceful solution, but to no avail. When there is a will to war, facts mean nothing.
