Some bracing candor from Cardinal Burke

He says the Most Equal Comrade's "policies have become progressively hostile toward Christian civilization."  Says the MEC "appears to be a totally secularized man."

  1. It should be noted that Cardinal Burke spearheaded the denial of Holy Communion to pro-choice politicos in America on both sides of the aisle and who also wants to continue this unchristian practice for divorced/remarried Catholics. Pope Francis calls his ilk pharisaic. Watch him here become critical of the new pope less than a year following his "election" speaking with ultra right wing American Catholic Raymond Arroyo, starting at 9:00. of Rome and absolute Sovereign of the Vatican City State: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Edq69fJLnXo

He is one of those "no, you can't do that" kind who might have to be mowed over by the faithful flock.

"You ask me if the God of the Christians forgives those who don't believe and who don't seek the faith. I start by saying—and this is the fundamental thing—that God's mercy has no limits if you go to him with a sincere and contrite heart. The issue for those who do not believe in God is to obey their conscience. Sin, even for those who have no faith, exists when people disobey their conscience."--Pope Francis, 266th and current Pope of the Catholic Church, Bishop of Rome and absolute Sovereign of the Vatican City State.

  2. So what you are saying is that it should be noted that fealty to doctrine is a high priority for Cardinal Burke.

By the way, Arroyo is an indispensible soldier in the war for America's soul.

  3. Arroyo is retro and him and his fans of the extraordinary form which is merely the Mass in Latin have and continue to be smacked down. Pope Francis did not mention him by name but he smacked Cardinal Burke and his denial of communion crowd down within days of his "election." Your beloved Rush is being disingenuous (one of your favorite words) when he implied on his show today that Cardinal Burke who he described as the head of the Vatican Supreme Court speaks for Rome. Cardinal Burke has already been demoted.

"Cardinal Burke, best known in America for announcing that John Kerry and Nancy Pelosi were bad Catholics “in manifest grave sin” who should avoid presenting themselves for Communion, is being replaced by Washington Cardinal Donald Wuerl, a moderate thinker who doesn’t consider it good pastoral practice to deny communion to anybody, and who better reflects the new attitude Francis seems to be bringing to papal politics.

The Congregation for Bishops is the Vatican department responsible for deciding who’s eligible to rise to the rank of Catholic bishop. By demoting Burke in favor of the more progressive, less intrusive Wuerl, Pope Francis is signaling a hope that the Church of the future might be less divisive and contrarian than ever before."

  4. It ought to be obvious to any human being with a shred of decency that Global Test and Pelosi should be denied communion.

  5. Well it wasn't and the good cardinal was pretty much smacked down from all corners. I know it is debatable whether he was promoted or demoted by the Pope but I don't think bishops get reassigned much. And I particularly recall Pope Francis getting down on denial of the eucharist within days of his installation, but you righties try to tell us something was lost in translation. Receiving communion has always been up to the individual conscience, not the conscience of the priest. Christ offered the bread and wine to the one who would betray him, did he not?

  6. Is this man, this priest/bishop a man for all seasons? Don't think so. I can see him tightening the torture devices in some Inquisition dungeon if we still did that sort of thing. Some shoes of the fisherman type, huh? By the way, Majerus was born, raised, educated & buried a Catholic. Wonder if the good and kindly Bishop Burke tried to block his extreme unction which was likely performed more than once on a man with long-standing heart disease. Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord. Deo Gratias that Cardinal Burke did not make Pope although some had called him a frontrunner. Instead, he's headed for a smackdown. Stifle, kind sir. If you had been shoving your mitre & staff in everyone's face back in '60 when you were 12 years old, John F. who had to bend over backwards to convince a skeptical populace he would not be a papist would have lost in a landslide. That is probably a good thing to your ilk. Then we would have gotten that Quaker nearly a decade earlier than we did.

"On January 22, 2008, Burke urged Saint Louis University to take disciplinary action against its head basketball coach, Rick Majerus, after Majerus publicly supported abortion and embryonic stem cell research at a campaign event for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton three days earlier."
