Some thoughts from a great mind on Mrs. Food Desert's house-built-by-slaves remark

You probably have heard about the remark she let loose with during her commencement address at City College of New York last Friday, the one about waking up every morning in a house built by slaves.

The best observations on that remark I've seen come from John F. Di Leo, a frequent contributor to Illinois Review and a Facebook friend of mine.  Here's what he had to say on his FB page:

JFD's Top 5 responses to Michelle Obama', in reply to her latest offensive statement: that "I wake up in a house built by slaves"....

5: You should consider yourself lucky that you wake up at all.

4: All over the country, people DON'T wake up in a house... because of foreclosures that resulted from BHO's rotten economy.

3: You didn't HAVE to move to Washington to live there just because your commie husband was elected. You could've stayed in Chicago, in a house NOT built by slaves, and practiced law... if you hadn't had your law license pulled for corruption, that is.

2: When the White House was built, there was slavery in almost every country on earth. Today, slavery is only still around in the countries you and your husband support... often practiced by the very people you hang out with.

And the number one response to Michelle Obama, in reply to her whining that "I wake up in a house built by slaves," is:

1) I believe I speak for the entire country when I say: We wish you didn't live there either.
Bingo.

  1. because of foreclosures that resulted from BHO's rotten economy? Some of us have longer memories. The foreclosure crisis clearly emanated from the meltown back in'08 before Obama was even elected. The housing market has since come back, albeit because of artificially low interest rates. It's a seller's market again in most locales.

  2. Was Michelle Obama disbarred?

No. Michelle Obama was not disbarred, rather, she voluntarily inactivated her license. A court official confirmed that no public disciplinary proceeding has ever been brought against her, contrary to a false Internet rumor. By voluntarily inactivating her license, she avoids a requirement to take continuing education classes and pay annual fees. She could practice law again if she chooses to do so.

  4. The God-loving, America-loving, truth-devoted Mr. Di Leo responds:

Yes... Reports are that it was voluntary, in the same way as when you voluntarily pay a fine so a speeding ticket doesn't go on your record.

There's a good summary of the story on Pamela Gellar's page. I linked to it in the comments in my original post.

its really common sense... You could see a First Lady letting her license go dormant after her husband wind the presidency... She obviously won't be practicing for four years .. Bug to let it lapse in 1993, so soon after law school, before her husband was even a state legislator?

    No way. It's ridiculous.
