The latest humdinger utterance from John McCain

How's that again? The ultimate Reasonable Gentleman says that Chuck Hagel is not qualified to be SecDef, but that the Senate shouldn't hold up his nomination.

  1. He is being a realistic gentleman, he thinks, but now we'll never know. Duh.

  2. I happen to agree with him about Ted Cruz. I know you think he's a great senator (how the hell could you ever tell, he's only been in office for barely a month), but I think I know an asshole, aka unreasonable gentleperson when I see one. McCain's actions may be a move to shut this ahole up. Thanks Senator.

  3. I love it when I am affirmed in my sensibilities>

Last week, stories and columns ran, effectively simultaneously, in Politico, the Times and the Washington Post, all with the same basic message: Ted Cruz is being a dick.

Read more at for a defensive slant which I do not at all agree with on your beloved Senator Dick Cruz at: http://www.salon.com/2013/02/18/dear_john_mccain_ted_cruz_isnt_whats_wrong_with_the_senate_you_are/

  4. Oh, like the shill media - the propaganda arm for this monstrously freedom-hating, America-destroying regime - is going to laud Sen Cruz for standing up for the principles of freedom and American greatness.

We need an entire Senate of Ted Cruzes. We need an entire federal government of Ted Cruzes.

  5. When LITD says that the Democrat party is the enemy, every bit as much as North Korea or Hamas or al-Qaeda, there is no rhetorical license involved. Readers are to take it literally.

  6. It did not take the media for me to recognize a real asshole when I see and hear one. One look at that guy was enough. Icky comes to mind. I doubt whether he was ever in the military. Well, McCain was, it's his committee and I would love to see McCain keep kicking his assholian ass!

  7. In the halls of the Academy McCain could make this swab do push-ups and worse until he cried. That would be a sight.

  8. Since you think those who are not with you(and the Israel lobby) are every bit the enemy as much as North Korea or Hamas or al-Qaeda I doubt you will put ANY stock in the foregoing opinion, but it's just "right on" in my book. I'm wagering that such ramped up purple proclamations will serve your "patriotic freedom-loving" cause no better than the "now with us, against us" crap you fed us all 8 years ago.

"McCarthy-style questioning of all things Obama is exactly why Tea Party voters sent Ted Cruz to the Senate. Tea Party conservatives sent Cruz to the Senate so that he would act exactly the way he acted during the Hagel hearings. Disruptive, disrespectful, accusative, and most importantly of all....angry.

Pushed immediately after his election to the teevee circuit by Republicans and the wired-Republican Beltway media, Cruz has sought out controversy, looking for every opportunity to deliver political red meat to the far right. Indeed, the Redstate blogger calls Cruz a role model of true patriotism.....

If we ever hope to restore the strength and character of this Republic, we need to seek out more people like Ted Cruz – patriots who will not wait a single day to begin delivering on their campaign promises.

What the Redstate writer is saying is that behaving like Joe McCarthy did back in the 50's is actually patriotic. Turning the Senate into just another Tea Party Townhall bust-up marked by incivility, accusations, threats and total disrespect....is the very behavior that radical conservatives are looking for in their senators.

I am of the opinion that the U.S. has never really settled the Civil War. In many ways we are still fighting that war. Our red state-blue state dichotomy is real. Senator Ted Cruz was sent to the U.S. Senate to escalate that bloodless civil war. To neo-confederate supporters, Ted Cruz is a hero and a patriot. To everyone else, Cruz is a reminder of an ugly time past when another self-described patriot and angry Republican senator named Joe McCarthy brought dishonor and shame on our proud nation."

These three are your greatest treasures.
Simple in actions and thoughts, you return to the source of being.
Patient with both friends and enemies,

    Compassionate toward yourself,
