"A seven-year-old with a Twitter account"

Last week I had a conversation with one of those friends one wishes time permitted more of his company. He's insightful and has a memorable way of putting things. He noted that the Very Stable Genius has crossed off all items on his campaign-promise list, save one (The Wall). Judicial appointments? Coming along nicely. 86ing the "A"CA? Partial and messy; just a few of its key provisions. A US-interests-first foreign policy? Well, according to his own definition, yeah. Deregulation? Also coming along nicely.

My friend said that, whether he wins or loses on the last biggie, he'll be out of major initiatives at that point, and all we will have "a seven-year-old with a Twitter account" sitting in the Oval Office.

Which gets us to David French's latest tweet about the VSG's latest tweet:

I’ll never get used to this crap coming from a man who has the same job as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Ronald Reagan.
The tweet being referenced:

So sorry to hear the news about Jeff Bozo being taken down by a competitor whose reporting, I understand, is far more accurate than the reporting in his lobbyist newspaper, the Amazon Washington Post. Hopefully the paper will soon be placed in better & more responsible hands!

My friend also noted that the VSG is getting less popular, not more, beyond his MAGA base. And the field of lefties shaping up to contend in the primaries for the Dem nomination has its social-media obnoxiousness chops in order. They no how to engage him on that battlefield.

Seriously, this is a guy who has been jetting around the world for decades, even before his presidency. He regularly meets with heads of state, diplomats, powerful business leaders, thoughtful public servants of various stripes. And he still has to go here?

GOP party leadership had better think really hard about unequivocally casting its lot with this guy. He's the president and has lots of bucks, but he hasn't become one subatomic particle more statesmanlike.
